Dear Parents/Guardians,
Open enrollment for Scott County Schools is drawing near. Again for the 2016-17 school year, the system will allow for online applications. All students who wish to attend a school other than their residential attendance zone must open enroll between the dates of January 4th and January 29th. Aside from qualifying reasons listed in paragraph 3, parents should expect limited open enrollment opportunities due to space restrictions.
Beginning on Monday, January 4th at 9:30 am, applications for open enrollment for the 2016-17 school year will be available online and at schools. Parents/guardians wishing to apply for open enrollment for their child(ren) may access the online application through the Scott County Schools website (www.scott.kyschools.us) using any computer or mobile device. The Scott County Preschool Center and each elementary and middle school will have a station set up for those without internet access. Paper applications may also be picked up at any elementary or middle school or the Scott County Schools Central Office. If completing a paper application, the original application must be completed and returned to the reception desk on the 2nd floor of Scott County Schools Central Office by 4 p.m. on January 29th. The online application will close at 4:00 p.m. on January 29th. If multiple days are missed due to inclement weather, the deadline may be extended. Notice will be sent if the deadline is extended.
The Superintendent/Designee may designate a number of spots for open enrollment by school due to staffing, school-specific needs, student capacity, current enrollment, and enrollment trends. Open enrollment at individual schools will be very limited. Applications for open enrollment from students will be considered in the following order: 1. Contractual employees’ children, 2. Currently, open enrolled students in the same school, 3. Siblings of students on open enrollment at the same school for the upcoming year. Kindergarten open enrollment applications will also be considered during the week of kindergarten registration in March.
Please be advised, parents must provide transportation for open enrolled students and approval for open enrollment is for one school year only. Habitual truancy or school behavior may impact a student’s open enrollment status. Final decisions regarding a student’s open enrollment status shall be determined by the Superintendent/Designee with input from the school principal. Please contact Lynne Switzer, Director of Student Services at lynne.switzer@scott.kyschools.us with questions.
Sincerely,
Lynne Switzer
